How to sleep
Sleeping is important for the body.
It restores your energy and boosts your cognitive function.
When I sleep well, I have better mood and the energy to attack the tasks of the day.
Here are the things that have improved my sleep:
-
3 hours before sleeping I put on bluelight-blocking glasses. These days my eyes get strained easily, so I wear them most days to counteract that.
-
1 hour before bed time I read a book. I love reading and it helps me wind down.
-
Before I go to sleep I rinse my nose with seawater. I have a deviated septum, and I’ve suffered from a blocked/stuffy/runny nose my entire life. This is the biggest predictor of good sleep for me. A rinse helps.
-
Nose strips. I found that BreatheRight makes the best nose strips and it feels like they add 15-20% capacity to your breathing.
-
Black blinds. No sunlight, helps sleep better for sure.
-
Eye mask. This is a game changer, it blocks out any stray light. I use a “3D” mask that does not put any pressure on my eyeballs.
-
Ear plugs. It drowns out all the noise from the outside. I use ear wax specifically, because they mold to your ears, and they do not hurt.
-
Cold AC. I go for the coldest setting possible, around 16’C.
This protocol is still a work in progress.
Things I want to try next:
- Buy a WHOOP and track my sleep
- Experiment with taking the last meal earlier and how it affects sleep
- Experiment with gym schedule and how it affects sleep
