Action without thought

Recently I came across a fascinating idea.

The ideas is that you don’t need to think to be successful, you just need to do the actions required to get there.

Do the work and you will arrive at your desired destination.

Image you never baked a cake, but you want to bake the greatest cake ever.

You don’t need to be a master chef, you simply need to follow the recipe.

30 repetitions and you will have figured out how to nail every single step of the recipe, and achieve a pristine quality cake.

Apparently the same goes for success (in this context: business success), you can force it, by executing the correct actions.

I tried to apply this idea this to my own life and I found two fallacies.

I say, that I want to make more money.

But when it comes to sending quotes, I don’t love that process - so usually I send them at days end.

If I would really care - I’d send them at days start - first thing. (Or is there a subtle fear of rejection at play here?)

Same with bookkeeping, I genuinely hate it.

But it is the necessary evil to getting paid on time.

These are two example where what I say and what I do diverge.

So you could argue, it is precisely thought that hinders me.

The hindering thought is that I do not enjoy doing these activities

But If I would accept that these are priority level tasks, switch off my mind and just do these actions in the right order, I would always start my day with quotes and bookkeeping.

Well, I do want to make more money.

And so going forward I will try to start my day with quotes and I do books midway through, rather then pushing them last.

That is a commitment I make in terms of priorities.
